"My belief is to make the most of every second at the gym: get the workout done in the shortest time possible," said Stephanie Lauren, a certified group fitness and yoga instructor. Available now on iOS, Custom Fit 4 You provides an easily navigable interface for choosing what type of workout you're performing, whether you're hitting the weight bench or going for a quick jog on the treadmill. The app tracks your reps, heart rate and calories burned, and even provides a sample video to help you get your form right. For instance, the companys online and retail stores will start offering Rhythm by Scosche ($79.99), a Bluetooth armband heart rate monitor that is app-powered and attaches to the users forearm to track heart rate, calories burned, distance, speed, pace and more. The Striiv Play Pedometer ($59.99) is a discreet activity tracker that makes fitness feel like play. The device tracks activity including stairs and steps as well as distance, calories and more. The companys Smart Pedometer, which sells for $99.99, uses an activity motivation system that learns the users behaviors and designs personalized challenges tailored to personal activity levels to help the user reach fitness goals even on busy days.

From now until January 1, Rollero is offering free admission to a group fitness class with Max Workouts review every donation of two cans of food. By the first of the year, Rollero is hoping to have hundreds if not thousands of canned foods to donate to the Flemington Food Pantry. Based on data from the United Way of Northern NJ, I know that close to 30 percent of the families in Hunterdon County are struggling financially and going into the winter months, food banks need donations more than ever, said Rollero who established Healthy U Fitness in 1992. She said people are also struggling with the commitment to be healthy and stay fit so she decided to combine efforts to create the Healthy U Fitness Holiday Food Drive. From now until January 1, anyone who donates two cans of food can enjoy a free class and choose from: strength and cardio training, Pilates lunch express and Pilates floor, yoga, Zumba, and Tabata boot camp, a high-intensive interval training program.
These new classes are being offered at both Fortenberry-Colton Physical Fitness Center and the Fort Rucker Physical Fitness Center, to put a twist on standard fitness classes and cater to those that might not have been able to work out before, according to Lynn Avila, fitness program coordinator. "We're trying to accommodate more (parents) with young children who don't want to put their children in child care or can't pay for child care," said Avila. "We want to provide a little more help in that area, so that they can work out with their children at the same time." The new classes that will be available include, Power Yoga, Outdoor Fitness, Outdoor Cycling, OH Baby, Stroller Derby and H2O Strength & Conditioning. Power Yoga still utilizes the technique of stretching, as in traditional yoga, but integrates a muscle-strength technique to add a bit of strength training, said the fitness coordinator, adding that it's a good workout for people who are looking for something different.
"I have no problem with caffeine; I'm a coffee drinker myself," fitness expert Chris Freytag told me Nov. 14. "Caffeine is a relatively safe stimulant and can enhance your workout."
